Sorting and Organizing ...

Some of you might know my Mom, Jean. She is an AMAZING woman!!! She is the reason I started quilting back in 1999 when I joined her in her quilt shop in Creston. We had 7 wonderful years there together before she said she was ready to retire and we sold the building and land to a local developer.

Over the past few years, she has faced challenges with her 'memory' with grace and humour. She continued to sew and still goes out for her daily walks, sometimes twice a day. I would say she is always happy, smiling and can carry on a great conversation about many things. My Dad also confirms this and is so supportive, patient and understanding.

Recently, her issues with memory have taken away her ability to sew, quilt and she can no longer 'make her sewing machine work'.

Today she asked me to pick up a few things that she didn't want to have hanging around because they made her sad and frustrated. Basically, EVERYTHING had to go she said. We sat and chatted about the fact that if she did feel the urge to sew or quilt she could come over to the studio and I could make that happen, or she could watch me. I left her sewing machine today and a few things she said she wanted ... but didn't want. She said she felt better after everything was loaded into my car.

I found this newspaper clipping in the bottom of one of the boxes. It is from 1986.

In the article, she says "I don't understand how people can get bored. There's just not enough hours during the day." My wish for my Mom is that she will continue to find joy and creativity in her Golden Years...whatever that may look like.

If you see her out and about in Creston, remind her how awesome she is so she never forgets!
