Crestons Banner Project

Last week, we got a call to help with the overwhelming grief in our community. A tragic car accident took the life of a local business owner. A workplace accident where a 20 year old young man also lost his life.

Grief has been sitting in my heart since loosing both parents in the past 2 years. I've been trying to navigate my way thru the grief using art as therapy. I took an 8 week course (art therapy) where I learned some ways that helped me. Art was the tool that i used to move thru the grief and now I've been able to use that to help others by this 'simple' idea - The Grief Art Banner.

I've also learned that 'simple ideas' aren't always simple and easy, especially when it comes to grief and helping others. But, here's the awesome part of being from a small community...they are bigger communities, and we are more likely to be involved in way more peoples lives that you are in a big city.

Where are we with the Banner Project?

Well, we have 62 completed squares, the story has been on CBC Radio -

(click the link below to listen - scroll to around 31:20). We have also been featured on CBCs website (link below). We have been featured on the front page of the local paper, The Creston Valley Advance (link below).

We have had so many emails from people out of town asking if they could have a flag done for a loved one, and could we please extend the date into the New Year so they could participate.

Yes, we have extended the project into the New Year - we will re evaluate in January.

To sum it all up (because I feel like I could write a book from this experience) - when we put our heart out there, when we open up to helping others and sharing ideas and time, it's likely that BIG HUGE THINGS will happen!
